چکیده
Abstract The aim of this work was to examine uniaxial, torsion, and multi-axial fatigue characteristics ER100S-1 low carbon steel specimens fabricated with wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technique, a subcategory directed energy deposition (DED). Two distinct specimen orientations were tested—vertical horizontal, extracted perpendicular parallel the WAAM deposited layers, respectively. Fracture surfaces tested analysed under scanning electron microscope (SEM) observe fracture mechanisms corresponding different orientations, loading conditions, interpret results obtained from tests. Finally, stress–life compared data available in literature for series wrought WAAM-built structural specimens. Moreover, S–N curves study evaluated against design curve recommended offshore marine welded structures DNV standard. Test have shown advantageous behaviours other steels conservative prediction its life by

Areal Surface Texture Data Extraction from X-ray Computed Tomography Reconstructions of Metal Additively Manufactured Parts
Many applications that exploit the manufacturing flexibility of additive manufacturing (AM) produce surfaces, primarily internal features, which cannot be measured using conventional contact or line-ofsight optical methods. This paper evaluates the capability of a novel technique to extract areal surface data from micro-focus X-ray computed tomography (XCT) from AM components and then generate ...
متن کاملAssessment of different methods for fatigue life prediction of steel in rotating bending and axial loading
Generally, fatigue failure in an element happens at the notch on a surface where the stress level rises because of the stress concentration effect. The present paper investigates the effect of a notch on the fatigue life of the HSLA100 (high strength low alloy) steel which is widely applicable in the marine industry. Tensile test was conducted on specimens and mechanical properties were obtain...
متن کاملApproaches to Geometric Data Analysis on Big Area Additively Manufactured (baam) Parts
The promise of additive manufacturing is that a user can design and print complex geometries that are very difficult, if not impossible, to machine. The capabilities of 3D printing are restricted by a number of factors, including properties of the build material, time constraints, and geometric design restrictions. In this paper, a thorough accounting and study of the geometric restrictions tha...

Honeycombs resemble the structure of a number of natural and biological materials such as cancellous bone, wood, and cork. Thick honeycomb could be also used for energy absorption applications. Moreover, studying the mechanical behavior of honeycombs under in-plane loading could help understanding the mechanical behavior of more complex 3D tessellated structures such as porous biomaterials. In ...
